COMPANY HISTORY
ORION Casting was founded in 2026 after a buyout of Pace Industries. Today ORION is the 5th largest general industrial castings company in North America and the #1 independent die casting company in North America with expertise in aluminum, magnesium and zinc. ORION offers a wide array of services and capabilities to customers across numerous markets including: automotive, commercial vehicle, powersports, lighting, lawn and garden, appliance, aerospace, defense, medical, and other industries. But, more important than size, the culture of ORION provides the foundation for a business dedicated to, and which delivers, uncompromising and uncommon service, business excellence and integrity.

2020-2026
2026: ORION Casting has accumulated the assets, capabilities, and manufacturing expertise of Pace Industries, creating a stronger platform to serve customers across North America.
2026: MiddleGround Capital acquired Pace
2021: Pace opened new world headquarters in Detroit, Michigan
2020: Cerberus Capital Management and TCW Asset Management acquired Pace.

2000-2020
During the early 2000s, Pace pursued a successful value-added/value-engineering imitative that led to several customer programs ranging from advanced technologies in cosmetic die casting, conversion of permanent mold process parts to die casting, to cast in steel metal tubing and liners, and more. During this time there was also a series of strategic events in both the US and Mexico:
2015: Pace grew its market share in automotive both organically and through the acquisition of a leading Michigan-based automotive die casting company in 2015 (Formerly Port City Group)
2008: Pace was sold to its previous owner, Kenner & Co. of New York, in 2008. Under new ownership, Pace set its sights on expanding its industry-leading die cast expertise in automotive end-markets.
2002: Pace acquired Emerson Electric’s share of the joint Venture becoming sole owner of the Saltillo plant
2000: Pace Acquired Product Technologies in Maple Lake, MN. The acquisition of Product Technologies marked Pace’s entry into magnesium die casting end markets.

1990
The 1990s was a time of extensive growth, expansion and acquisition for Pace Industries beginning in 1993 with a joint venture with Emerson Electric to become the first U.S. die caster to directly execute a low-cost country strategy by green-fielding a die cast plant in Saltillo, Mexico
1995: in order to support its growing die casting business, Pace acquired a second tool and die maker, Patterson Tool and Die.
1996: Pace was acquired by Fortune 500 company, Leggett & Platt Incorporated (“L&P”) . At the time of the acquisition, Pace had grown to become the largest non-automotive independent die caster in North America. Also, in 1996 came the acquisition of Airo Die Casting in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.
1997: Pace acquired Cambridge tool & manufacturing inc. Billerica, Massachusetts
1998: Pace acquired B&C Die Cast in Jonesboro, Arkansas, marking Pace’s entry into conventional and miniature zinc die casting. The same year Pace expanded operations in Mexico, opening a second Mexico plant in the city of Chihuahua as a wholly-owned plant.

1980
In the late 1980’s, Pace grew considerably and built a national reputation as an expert in large, thin-walled die castings serving the lighting and grill industries. Using an internally developed process core competency for producing ultra-thin wall die castings, Pace became the industry leader in the outdoor gas barbecue grill and high-density flood light markets.
1988: Pace embarked upon an acquisition program in response to consolidation trends transpiring in the industry at the time, adding three additional die cast plants and one tool and die maker

1970
FOUNDING OF PACE INDUSTRIES
